A 12ft swell, 19 seconds, most reefs maxing out, Kelly Slater and Toby Abberton getting shacked at Sanur, we decide to go for the a bit 'less dangerous' option and catch a boat out to Airport right's inside Doradora... Good choice, if it wouldn't have been for the Mosquitos at Mama Ketut's Warung after the surf... Denghe here I come! 3 days later all three of us got the Big D and ended up in a Balinese hospital, 40 Degrees fever, shivering, blood level way below normal, our boat trip to East Timor cancelled, and soon on a plane back to Europe... What a trip? Well, at least we scored a few good waves on our first day in Bali, got held under for a while, smiled... it was well worth it! When we are going back to Bali? Not sure, at the moment we are pretty over it... Can't wait to surf a cold water break in a 4/3, getting a head freeze, having numb feet, a smile and no Denghe! :)
